Info

Join us for a morning of Dorset mushroom hunting and identification as well as collecting a few edible species. Learn the basics of safely identify edible and poisonous mushroom species and get an understanding of how these amazing organisms protect, regulate and manage the forest eco system.

This walk will be led by either John Rensten, Dorset resident, life time forager and author of The Edible City-A Year of Wild Food or by local foraging guide and Dorset Fungi Group course leader, Andy Knott. The walk will last approximately 3 hours and take place in East Dorset… this walk will be held in the woodlands and grounds of the newly reopened Carey Secret Garden, a fantastic hidden gem in Dorset.

‘John’s foraging course was hands on, informative and a real sensory experience! I really enjoyed the course and his passion.’ Brie O’Keefe

Outside of Dorset Forage London and Beyond run foraging courses and wild food walks across London’s green spaces, mushroom hunting in the woodlands of Hampshire and The New Forest and seashore and seaweed foraging along Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Past London locations include… Crystal Palace Park, Finsbury Park, Victoria Park, Hampstead Heath, Walthamstow Marshes, Sion Park, Wimbledon Common, Wandsworth Common, Battersea Park, Waterlow Park, Holland Park, Ravenscourt Park, Highgate woods & Alexandra Palace.

Please be advised before booking, some of our mushroom forays may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties so if in any doubt please email me in advance. In addition, please be aware that although these events run for approximately 3 hours, that could easily turn out to be 4 hours instead, so I urge you not to book a posh lunch somewhere timed precisely to coincide with the end of the walk, give yourself plenty of leeway.
